I hope that we get a decent recording out of our concert tomorrow. If we do, it will be posted for sure. The piece is beautiful, it really is. Sometimes it’s hard to connect the kid I’m friends with to the composer. Like in Amadeus, where Mozart is actually just some goofball playing with a girl’s tits under the table in the opening scene. But they are actually one and the same, the horndog goofball and the brilliant composer. I’m not saying that my friend is the next Mozart. He’s not. But it’s a bit like that, and it never ceases to amaze me.
Like, damn. He wrote something beautiful. And I can tell that it means a lot to him. When he’s conducting, he gets the biggest smile on his face, and he is just slamming our ques and trying to draw everything out of us. And then the choir comes in and starts singing these simple, but heart-wrenching lyrics and I just stop playing my violin like, gah. I almost started crying during rehearsal, I really did. Just watching someone appear to be so in their element. The amount of vicarious happiness was overwhelming.

I hope Barack Obama’s favorite band has a song with his name in it so it sounds like they’re singing directly to him.
